FROM GIVUDIANYI TO THE NATIONAL STAGE

The Remarkable Journey of Edgar Gibendi
Every great story has a beginning, and for Edgar Gibendi, that story began in the lush, rolling hills of Givudianyi Village in Vihiga County. Born and raised in the heart of Sabatia Constituency, Edgar’s journey from a village primary school to the high pressure world of national broadcasting is a testament to the power of early ambition and relentless consistency.

Foundations of a Storyteller
Edgar’s academic journey started at Givudianyi Primary School, where the seeds of communication were first sown. Even as a young boy, he wasn’t just a student; he was a practitioner. While his peers were focused on standard play, Edgar was already experimenting with the art of broadcasting, finding every opportunity to practice his craft within the school environment.
He moved on to Friends School Lusengeli for his secondary education, further refining his voice. His passion wasn't just a passing hobby as it was a calling. This led him to Radio Sahara in Kisumu, where he got a taste of the real world airwaves, practicing the delivery and storytelling that would eventually make him a household name.

Academic Excellence in Journalism
Recognizing that talent requires a formal edge, Edgar pursued a rigorous academic path in media. He first joined Jodan College of Technology, where he dived deep into the fundamentals of Broadcast Journalism.
To solidify his expertise, he attended the prestigious Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC), an institution renowned for producing the country’s top media professionals. Graduating with a degree, he emerged not just as a passionate speaker, but as a trained journalist ready to navigate the complexities of the digital and analog media landscape.

A Tour  Force in Kenyan Media
Upon graduation, Edgar’s career took off with remarkable velocity. He joined the Standard Media Group as a reporter, where he sharpened his investigative skills and learned the nuances of news gathering in a fast paced environment.
His versatility allowed him to transition seamlessly across various platforms, building an impressive portfolio that reads like a directory of Kenyan broadcasting. His professional footprint includes:

TV 47: Where he contributed to the rising station's news and feature segments.

Ebru TV and  Metropol TV: Where he handled diverse reporting roles, ranging from general news to business centric journalism.

Riverside TV: Further cementing his reputation as a reliable and charismatic presence on screen.

The Shift to Corporate Communications
Today, Edgar Gibendi has evolved beyond the newsroom. Transitioning from the front lines of reporting to the strategic world of Corporate Communications, he now lends his expertise to various government ministries.
In this capacity, he manages the flow of information between the state and the public, ensuring that complex policies are communicated with the same clarity and integrity he brought to his early days at Radio Sahara.

Lessons from the Journey
Edgar’s trajectory offers a powerful blueprint for aspiring journalists:

Start Early: Whether it’s a school club or a local station, start where you are.

Education Matters: Formal training at institutions like KIMC provides the technical experience to match your natural talent.

Adaptability is Key: Moving from village reporting to national TV, and eventually to government communications, requires a constant willingness to learn.
From the quiet corners of Wodanga Location to the corridors of power in Nairobi, Edgar Gibendi remains a storyteller at heart, a son of Vihiga who spoke his dreams into reality.
