BOSTON BLOWN AWAY:JOHN KORIR SHATTERS THE COURSE RECORD !

The streets of Boston have seen some legendary performances over the decades, but what we witnessed today was nothing short of a masterclass in distance running. John Korir didn't just win the 2026 Boston Marathon he completely dismantled the history books.

A Record 15 Years in the Making

For over a decade, Geoffrey Mutai’s staggering 2:03:02 from 2011 stood as a daunting benchmark, a time many thought would remain untouched given Boston's notoriously hilly and unpredictable course.

Korir clearly had other plans. With a display of raw power and tactical brilliance, he crossed the finish line in a mind-bending 2:01:52.

 New Course Record: 2:01:52

Previous Record: 2:03:02 (Geoffrey Mutai, 2011)

Achievement: Personal Best and a historic victory.

 The Podium Finishers

It was a competitive field that pushed the pace from the early miles, but Korir’s kick was undeniable. He led a powerhouse East African sweep of the podium:

 1. John Korir (Kenya): 1st Place (2:01:52)

 2. Alphonce Simbu (Tanzania):  2nd Place

 3.  Benson Kipruto (Kenya): 3rd Place

A Massive Payday for a Massive Performance

Beyond the glory and the laurel wreath, Korir’s record-breaking run comes with a significant financial reward. By combining the winner’s purse with the bonus for breaking the course record, Korir is walking away with a staggering Ksh. 25 Million from today's efforts alone.

"Congratulations to John Korir and Benson Kipruto for making our country proud!" A sentiment shared by fans across the globe as Kenya continues its dominance in the world of marathon running.

 What’s Next?

With a sub-2:02 time on a course as challenging as Boston, the conversation around John Korir has officially shifted. He is no longer just a contender; he is a titan of the sport. As the marathon season continues, the world will be watching to see if anyone can match the pace set by the man who just conquered the Heartbreak Hill and the history books in one go.

Congratulations, John Korir!
